An engineer, a marketer, a public relations specialist, a software developer, an accountant, and a CEO of a non-for-profit  — these are the people in my immediate network who are eager to transition their careers toward fighting climate change.

Statistically speaking, many professionals are looking to pivot their careers into the climate sector as the urgency of global warming and environmental sustainability becomes ever more pressing.

Perhaps it's your colleague, your friend, or even you.

If you're seeking to transform your existing role, or making a career leap into the climate space, this is your newsletter. Together, we will navigate the transition into meaningful work.

So who am I? I’m definitely not a recruiter or work in HR.

I’m the co-founder of a sustainability software company, a director of an Australian-wide circular economy business, a Climate Active accredited consultant, and an environmental engineer. Through my job(s) and the communities I’m active with, I’ve had the opportunity to speak with hundreds of people who work in the [climate] space.

The good news? Climate is definitely Hiring.

The bad news? “Climate” is honestly a pretty vague job category, and focusing on this key work might be set you up for failure right from the start. (Ironic that I’ve stuck with it for the title of this newsletter…)

  • Only a fraction have the word ‘sustainability’ or ‘climate’ in the title.

  • Most people cross-transfer into a ‘pure’ sustainability role so they are only promoted internally

  • 70% of open roles are never advertised on ‘traditional’ job boards, and I have a hunch that in climate the number is even higher.

And it makes sense. Truth be told, most climate oriented companies (or those who want to do good for the planet) need people whose performance is not solely related to sustainability as a KPI.

And I’m here to help you find and land those roles.

You might find out that your marketing experience is exactly what's needed for a renewable energy startup. Or perhaps your project management skills are a perfect fit for a conservation organisation. And that your sales processes are what a hardware company is looking for on its next stage of growth.

I’ll provide insights into which organisations are hiring and what they’re looking for. Most importantly, I’ll walk you through step-by-step practical examples of how I would apply for those roles and get closer to the companies I care about (even if they are not hiring right now!).

I will share relevant courses and certifications to help you build the necessary skills.

And finally, I will drive home a very important and powerful idea. The best climate companies might be the one you are already working at. Changing your current role, or parts of it, without changing companies, might provide the best platform to start creating meaningful impact when it comes to climate change.
